Buying or Selling a boat.

Buying.

Nick Stratton Yachts Ltd. specialises in the sale of quality sailing and power yachts from offices at Rhu Marina and Fairlie Quay on the Clyde, West Coast of Scotland. We enjoy a wide customer base througout the UK and we also deal with customers in Europe.

We can help purchasers with:
Advice on the current marine market.
Matching boats to your needs in terms of size, performance, condition and budget and providing you with details of suitable boats to view.
Arranging a survey and any lifting out requirements.
Competitive marine finance and insurance quotations.
Purchase documentation and the use of a client account for secure transactions.

Selling.

If you would like to sell your boat talk to us about it.

We can offer:
An inspection and advice on the current market price you should expect for your boat.
To arrange boat cleaning if required.
Comprehensive Web sensitive sales specifications including digital photographs for distribution to potential purchasers.
Advertising through magazines and internet listings.
Listings with other brokers, if appropriate.
Accompanied viewing if the boat is located at Rhu or nearby.
Experienced brokers to handle negotiations and offers to help conclude a sale at the right price.
The production of the correct 'Bill of Sale' form to ensure a proper transfer of clear title.
A smooth sale with the minimum of fuss.

    Selling Costs:

We charge a fee at the point of sale on the final sale price. There is no initial outlay required for us to take your boat on and in addition we can offer discounted berthing or storage ashore rates at Rhu for boats on our brokerage.

    The Buying Process.

Buying a boat is not something you do very often. Unlike buying a house, the purchase of a boat is largely unregulated therefore it is advisable to buy through a reputable broker who will guide you through the process and ensure your purchase goes as smoothly as posible with all the legal paperwork controlled.

Once you have found a boat that meets your needs and budget:

Make an offer via the broker; often the offer is 'subject to survey'.
If it is accepted - pay a 10% deposit, with an agreement signed by both parties. The money is held in a client account and is refundable if the survey is unsatisfactory and any renegotiation of the price is unsuccessful.

    Arrange a survey.

If successful the sale is agreed and the final balance is paid to the broker.
Once funds are received by the broker (and cleared) the 'Bill of Sale' is completed which transfers legal title to the new owner.
Sale proceeds are paid to the seller, less broker's fees and the 'Bill of Sale' is handed over to the new owner.
